The proposed 300 bed hospital prototype was developed by Perkins Eastman to become a model for health and wellness center to be implemented in Algeria. The hospital is organized through four main modular components: 1. An outpatient clinic building; 2. A diagnostic and treatment podium; 3. An inpatient tower; and 4. A public circulation ring that surrounds the main courtyard. These four base building components constitute a "kit of parts" that can be combined in various ways, depending on the particular condition of any site. In this way, this prototype design is adaptable and flexible, without compromising its essential functional relationship and adjacencies.
From conceptual sketches and programmatic organization to site and hospital plans, I also assisted the healthcare team with 3D & 2D diagrams and representations to highlight main architectural features that enhance the experience of building inhabitants (patients, family members, and staff), promoting healing through a connection to light and nature. This forward-thinking facility was designed to provide inspiration for a well-lived, within a verdant surrounding of gardens, courtyards, fountains, and pathways enhancing the patient experience.
