Who I am

My name is Mayumi Eduarda de Oliveira Thais and I am a recent graduate from the accredited B. Architecture program at California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo).
As a design-enthusiast and experience-seeker, I am constantly involved in the field of creativity and innovation in order to explore many forms of design and envision new possibilities for the future. I believe in a collaborative and results-driven approach to design that is capable of translating brand identities and shaping personalized experiences in multi-purpose spaces, products, and services while driving innovation and solving business challenges.
My goal is to go beyond the traditional architecture field and be part of an interdisciplinary team that creates experiences through impactful, human-focused design. Summing it up in a holistic view, the ideas and projects I work on and seek for the future have the interaction of architecture, design thinking practices, branding & marketing strategies, digital technological solutions, and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Freelancer
Work as a freelancer in the creation of branding and visual identity for pre-startups and new businesses along with marketing strategies in digital channels. One of my latest work was in the creation of the virtual advertisement of a retail house, breaking through new concepts of real estate and applying web design principles oriented to user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design.

While participating in firm-wide activities and engagements in the New York office, I also assisted the design team in the development of high-profile healthcare facilities models and approaches from the pre-schematic phase through construction documentation, as well as contributed to master plans, design competitions (in USA, Africa, and China), and research projects focused on sustainability and user experience on multipurpose spaces. Also participated in the EDRA50 Brooklyn Conference as part of the PE team, presenting the Fourth Place, one of our research projects.

I focused my research on Branded Environments to assess user needs and determine brand opportunities in physical spaces (e.g. hotels, restaurants, retail stores, and workplaces). With the guidance of the Design Strategy team, including weekly virtual meetings and reports, I was able to work on my research remotely from Brazil and around Europe to achieve a real world market perspective that contributed to the research.

INTERNSHIP
WKoerich Imoveis - Brazil
Summer internship at the project management department of WKoerich Imóveis, a construction and real estate company in Florianópolis, SC Brazil. At WKoerich, I documented and helped coordinate simultaneous projects in several disciplines, such as architecture, engineering, interior design, sales and finances to support performance goals and protocols, while refining my problem-solving abilities and enhancing my attention to details. This job also encompassed regular construction site visits.
Worked as an intern at NTN Architecture and Urbanism Firm with Nelson Teixeira Netto (Master Royal College of Art). During the 3 years, together with the NTN team I dedicated myself to the development of projects of houses, commercial and mixed use buildings, as well as in the creation of concepts and strategies directed to urban territories and development of masterplan, such as in the project of interpraias de Balneário Camboriú / SC, Brazil and Natural City (Barra Velha + Balneário Camboriú / SC, Brazil). I participated in meetings with clients and professionals from other disciplines that made me understand the potentialities and constraints of each project, giving me the basis to effectively contribute to the design process, including concept development, programming, layout, drawings and documentation. I also contributed to the development of diagrammatic and graphic expressions for client presentations, as well as for lectures at Brazilian universities, and for the Architecture and Urbanism Council of the state of Santa Catarina.

As the owner / principal, I am responsible for all client communication and project management to the production of architectural drawing sets from Conceptual Design through Construction Documentation. I also create compelling client presentations while maintaining a positive relationship with clients, contractors, engineers, and other professionals.
