Technological advances and the ever-accelerating society are at a faster speed than the building’s capability to adapt to them. Likewise, global crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, reinforce the need for architecture to be reinvented in an innovative and resilient way. To explore new architectural possibilities within this context, I proposed in my Senior Thesis the X.PERIENCE: a new spatial typology that is capable of quickly transforming its physical and digital configurations in real-time, allowing continuous evolution in usage, purpose and performance. By integrating (1) technology, (2) built environment capabilities, and (3) experiential design opportunities, this highly responsive infrastructure analyses data from users’ biometrics and environmental factors to develop smart recommendations and empower performative building components to accomplish specific operations at maximum efficiency.
